Cancun offers excellent shopping and most stores are conveniently concentrated in several ultramodern and attractive shopping malls located in the Hotel Zone.

Cancun is a duty-free zone and here you pay the lowest prices on items such as perfume, spirits and jewellery.

Hyatt Regency Cancun
is located on the tip of the Cancun peninsula, called the Punta Cancun, and is in the heart of Cancun town. All the major shopping malls, such as Plaza Caracol and Forum by the Sea, as well as other entertainment, are within walking distance

Gold and silver jewelry, fashionable resort wear and imported perfumes are among Cancun´s best buys. The resort's 10 percent sales tax, slightly lower than the 15 percent tax levied in the interior of the country, makes luxury items such as perfumes and fine jewelry popular purchases.


Shops generally open at 9 or 10 a.m. and stay open until 9 or 10 p.m. A few close during the lunch hour, from 2 to 4 p.m., and on Sundays.

SHOPPING MALLS


Plaza Kukulcan Plaza Kukulcan is the largest shopping centre, located in the heart of the Hotel Zone. This mall features a wide variety of shops and boutiques of internationally renowned brand names, restaurants, a fast-food court, cinemas, bowling alley and plenty of entertainment for children and adults.

Plaza La Isla Cancun's newest shopping centre, featuring the latest in restaurants, marinas, bars, famous brand-name shops, dance clubs, cinemas and an aquarium. Its outdoor setting beside the lagoon makes it a beautiful place in which to stroll and browse.

Plaza Flamingo A blend of shops and restaurants next to a lagoon boardwalk, also featuring a food court, travel agency, currency exchange and entertainment centres.

Forum by the Sea Located in front of Dady's, this impressive shopping mall features spectacularly decorated restaurants such as Rainforest, Hard Rock Café and Club Coco Bongo, and other renowned restaurants such as Cambalache and Mama Roma's. Five minutes' walking distance from Hyatt Regency Cancun.

Plaza Caracol An alliance has been established between Hyatt Regency Cancun and Plaza Caracol, which is an air-conditioned shopping mall with prestigious restaurants and cigar shops. It also features a food court, bank, internationally recognised designer clothing and accessories stores, with brands such as Fendi, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, sporting goods stores, perfume and jewellery stores and much more, just a five-minute walk from the hotel.
 
DOWNTOWN/CANCUN

Plaza Bonita An authentically Mexican, hacienda-style shopping centre located right next to Market 28. There are shoe shops, clothing shops for men, women and children, handicrafts, small cafes, an exercise facility, toys and games stores, a tobacconist, beauty salons, cosmetics stores, children's hairdresser, professional offices, local craft stalls and more. Located in downtown Cancun, on Avenida Xel-Ha.

LOCAL MARKET/HANDCRAFTS

* Ki-Hiuc A typical flea market where you will find leather goods, hats and wooden figures, among many other items. While you practise and enjoy the art of bargaining, you may often end up paying half the original asking price. Located in downtown Cancun in Avenida Tulum, a few blocks along on your right as you arrive downtown from the Hotel Zone.

* Market 28 Here there are fresh fruit and vegetables, local ice cream and the open-air seafood restaurants for which Cancun is famous. You will also find numerous vendors with shops selling everything from toys, clothes, games, flowers and paper goods, to shoes, sewing goods and ribbons, beachwear and arts and crafts of all types that include baskets, hats, handbags and pottery. Located in downtown Cancun, next to Plaza Bonita on Avenida Xel-Ha.

* Market 23 A place where one can get the real taste of regional dishes like moronga , pancita , and cochinita pibil . Plumbing items, home accessories and numerous items for general use are also on sale. It is an interesting place to browse to get a true flavour of Mexico. Located in downtown Cancun.

SUPER MARKETS

All this super markets are located in downtown. If you wish to buy at very reasonable prices groceries, bakery, casual clothing, shoes, beach towels, sun blockers, souvenirs or just to watch around, the Cancun's super stores are the right place. All of them open at 7:00 AM and close at midnight although the Walmart and Mega Comercial Mexicana are open 24 hours a day
